To get hired, a potential client first has to trust you. You will NOT get hired on Upwork or anywhere else until you’ve established, at least, a basic level of trust. The common advice you’ll get to do that is that you have to “build rapport”. This is all true. But, often, you’ll never get told exactly how to do build rapport. One effective method is what I call “Overt Transparency”. I learned this selling cars. Not from my mentors in that industry, mind you. But, by going against what they said, getting myself in a bunch of trouble and remembering that it’s the client who rules the day… not my snobby sales manager.
